SERVICE DISRUPTION - Edgecliff, East Sydney and Surrounding Sydney Areas - identified, 14 Dec 2017 5:21pm AEDT

  • Additional Fibre technicians have been mobilised and are in attendance to assist with the complex fibre splicing work.
  • Fibre splicing work is ongoing with the low rate of tubes being spliced due to the confined work area for technicians and the complexity of splicing required for the 5 fibre cables that converge into the same joint.
  • Customers should see services progressively restore as the resplicing work continues.
  • The issue has been escalated with Management and is being treated with the highest priority. No ETR is available at this time.

Fibre contractors have been working throughout the night. Resolution has been progressing and circuits are gradually restoring. Unfortunately, additional fibre damage was found overnight. The new damage found was at a different location and servicing the same fibre services. The newly identified damaged cable had to be replaced before splicing recommenced on some of the affected cable which added to the delay. Restoration work is ongoing with the highest priority.

• Fibre technicians have completed resplicing works to re-route a significant number of impacted services onto alternate fibre paths. 
• Work on re-routing the remaining fibre cables is ongoing and no restoration time is currently available. 
• Five fibre cables have been identified as being damaged by the drilling and is currently being assessed as to the customer impact.

• Fibre crews are on site and have confirmed the damage is extensive.
• Due to the nature of the fibre cut there may be further work required at each junction along the fibre section due to the drill pulling on the fibres.
• Restoration actions required are now being assessed and is being coordinated with Telstra. The work is expected to take an extended period of time and the overall repair required and estimates to begin work are currently unavailable.

Testing has identified the fibre break to be at the corner of Yuron Street and Liverpool Street in Sydney City.

  • A Field Technician has attended the site and found the fibre break has been caused by civil sewer works in the area. Initial assessment shows directional drilling has impacted a Telstra duct 3 metres underground, damaging our 72 core cable.
  • Fibre Repair crews are being mobilised to assess repairs and will work in conjunction with Telstra Technicians who are also at site.
  • Repair work will need to be coordinated and delays may be experienced due to the proximity to traffic and civil works. An assessment is underway and no ETR is available for commencement of fibre repair work at this time.
